Call for Applications: UNLEASH Hack Uganda - Employment-First Solutions

About the Hack

The UNLEASH Hack Uganda: Employment-First Solutions builds on the 2024 Employment First Policy and Practice (EFPP) course, which brought together persons with disabilities, students, and employers to explore practical approaches to advancing meaningful employment for persons with disabilities. The programme generated more than 50 community-based ideas, demonstrating both the creativity of participants and their commitment to addressing employment barriers.

The UNLEASH Hack Uganda is designed to provide stronger support to move these wonderful ideas into action. The two-day online Hack will enable selected participants to work closely with UNLEASH Facilitators and mentors to refine their ideas using the UNLEASH innovation process. The Hack will engage 30 selected EFPP Alumni through focused online sessions on Problem Framing, Ideating, and Prototyping, and will aim to strengthen their ideas into scalable, community-driven solutions.

Who Should Apply?

We are looking for 30 motivated EFPP alumni who:

1. Have an idea or solution addressing an employment challenge affecting persons with disabilities;
2. Are committed to developing and improving their idea;
3. Are willing to actively participate in both days of the Hack;
4. Are open to learning, collaboration, mentorship and feedback; and
5. Are interested in turning an idea into something that can potentially be tested, improved, and taken forward.

NB: Your idea does not need to be perfect or fully developed. What matters is that you have identified a meaningful problem, have an idea you would like to explore, and are committed to working on it.

Accessibility and Participation Support

The programme will be conducted online via Zoom, and sign language interpretation will be provided. Selected participants will also receive internet data support to facilitate their participation in the two online sessions.
